A conductor leading an orchestra during a rehearsal, with musicians playing string instruments and sheet music in front of them, in a room with large windows.

Victoria Olson is Principal Bassoon of the Grand Rapids Symphony and Bassoon Instructor at Grand Valley State University, while steadily expanding her work as a conductor.

Her conducting studies began at Carnegie Mellon University, where she led the Baroque Ensemble during her undergraduate years.  Her studies with Robert Olson and Marcelo Lehninger further shaped her musicianship and leadership from the podium. In 2025, she conducted a chamber orchestra comprised of GRS and DSO musicians in Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Haydn’s Symphony No. 6. Equally at home as performer and conductor, she brings clarity, energy, and artistry to her work on both podium and stage.
